Halbrook, General Assembly Pass Legislation Reducing Trailer Fees

The Illinois House has unanimously approved legislation reducing excessive trailer registration fees in Illinois.

State Representative Brad Halbrook today said Senate Bill 58 lowers the annual registration fee for a trailer from $118 to $36 per year. The bill creates a new UT plate with a 2,000lb capacity at a cost of $36 per year, and decreases the fee to $36 for TA plates for 3,000lb capacity trailers.

“I have been working on this issue all year,” Rep. Halbrook said. “The trailer fees had been raised to ridiculous rates. This compromise brings them back to a reasonable level.”

Rep. Halbrook said Senate bill 58 also repeals the $10,000 cap on the exclusion from sales tax when you trade in your vehicle at a dealership.

The Senate on Monday concurred with the House language, readying the legislation to be sent to the governor to be signed into law.
