Halbrook Files Resolution Condemning Governor’s Inflammatory Rhetoric

SHELBYVILLE, IL…State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) filed HR 292 late last week following the inflammatory and divisive rhetoric spewed by Governor JB Pritzker at a New Hampshire Democratic Party fundraiser last week.

HR 292 condemns in the strongest possible terms Governor Pritzker’s rhetoric that advocates for violence against President Trump and members of the federal government. The resolution also urges the Governor to retract and clarify his remarks and reaffirm his commitment to civil discourse and adherence to the United States Constitution.

“The comments made by Governor Pritzker are appalling and damaging,” said Rep. Halbrook. “In times like these, where our country is so divided, the last thing we need is for state leaders to incite violence on anyone who they don’t agree with. I am calling on the Governor to apologize, retract, and clarify his comments and reassure the people of Illinois that he will serve as our governor first, not a presidential candidate.”

Governor Pritzker’s comments included urging Democrats to take “whatever means are necessary” to resist or overturn the leadership of President Trump and the Republican Party. The Governor also added “these Republicans cannot know a moment of peace,” and “never in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption, but I am now,” which, to Halbrook, will further divide the American people.

“Illinoisans deserve better, they deserve a governor who cares more about their state than eyeing a bid for national political status,” concluded Halbrook.
