SHELBYVILLE, IL… State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) issued the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker’s prioritization of illegal aliens over law-abiding citizens with the launch of his ‘Know Your Rights, Illinois’ (KYR) Campaign.
“Governor Pritzker has once again shown us exactly where his priorities lie—and it’s not with you and hardworking citizens of Illinois,” began Halbrook. “His latest, ‘Know Your Rights, Illinois,’ Campaign is a taxpayer-funded initiative designed to help illegal aliens. He is telling these individuals how to avoid deportation, access free legal help, and how to game the system, all while citizens of Illinois are struggling under skyrocketing taxes, failing schools, and growing crime. This isn’t compassion, it’s lawlessness.”
The KYR Campaign is focused on guiding illegal immigrants on how to interact with law enforcement and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), information about free or low-cost legal support, affordable housing and food options, public benefits, and how-to guides about obtaining ID cards and driver’s licenses. Additionally, there is information about how to volunteer as a legal professional, providing training to those unfamiliar with immigration law and providing interpreters to help.
Halbrook notes how absurd it is for Governor Pritzker to help illegal immigrants find support while the citizens of his state can barely scrape by under the weight of his irrational spending habits.
“While Pritzker helps illegal immigrants, he is ignoring the thousands of families trying to plan their futures and using their tax dollars to do it,” continued Halbrook. “Schools are underfunded, roads are crumbling, and businesses are drowning in red tape, all issues that must be addressed but are continuously ignored by the Governor and Illinois Democrats. Illinois should be a sanctuary for citizens, not criminals. It’s time for new leadership and one that puts Illinois families first.”
