Rep. Halbrook recently joined-in the program for the 2024 Dudley Smith Farm Field Day at the Dudley Smith Initiative Farm in Christian County.
The farm is a 228-acre research site dedicated to supporting and advancing the agricultural industry in Illinois. The Field Day program included a wide variety of topics, including cover crops, soil testing, agronomy research, and farm-to-plate operations. Highlighting this year’s event was a special presentation honoring Ed Ballard, who has been an integral part of the Dudley Smith Farm since its establishment in 1995. Rep. Halbrook presented a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the Illinois House of Representatives.
“As a lifelong family farmer, I can truly appreciate the work done here each day to support farmers, ag businesses, and also our rural communities as a whole. We are truly indebted to those working hard here to help us succeed, Rep. Halbrook said. “Ed serves as the primary liaison for the farm, and has worked alongside the researchers, farmers, students, and community members to fulfill the DSI goals. As Ed prepares for retirement, I want to say thank you – Illinois agriculture is better for your tireless dedication and your contributions.”
