SHELBYVILLE, IL…State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) released the following statement to congratulate the fire departments and protection districts in the 107th District that were awarded the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Small Equipment Grant. The grant allows fire departments, protection districts, and not-for-profit ambulance services to purchase small tools and equipment needed to operate.
In the 107th District, four stations were awarded the grant including Mt. Zion Fire Protection District, Witt Volunteer Fire Department, Effingham Fire Department, and Oconee Fire Department.
“This grant opportunity is a great way to fill in the funding gaps that many fire departments, protection districts, and ambulance services face,” said Rep. Halbrook. “Without the necessary equipment, these service providers are unable to operate and respond to emergencies, which is devastating, but especially to small communities that do not have the option to call in a nearby hospital to help. Of the 180 awarded, I am happy to see so many rural districts be included.”
