Rep. Halbrook on IL Energy Policy: When Will Ratepayers See Relief?

ILLINOIS – As Illinois families continue to face skyrocketing utility bills, State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) is sounding the alarm on yet another energy proposal that doubles down on the failed policies driving costs even higher. During floor debate, the lawmaker from Shelbyville blasted years of energy legislation that have forced reliable coal and natural gas generation offline while leaving taxpayers and ratepayers on the hook for billions in subsidies.

He pointed to FEJA, CEJA, and SB25 as examples of costly government mandates that have failed to deliver affordable, reliable energy for working families. He also warned that excessive regulations and energy caps are pushing power producers out of Illinois entirely, threatening grid reliability and driving up prices for consumers.

“If you care about your constituents, if you care about low energy prices, if you care about the future of this great state, you have to be a no vote on this,” said Rep. Halbrook.
