Rep. Halbrook Releases Statement as Governor Pritzker Signs Largest Budget in State History

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) released the following statement Tuesday after Governor Pritzker signed the record breaking $55.9 Billion FY2027 State Budget that was passed at 4:00 AM on the last day of session.

“Governor Pritzker can call this a balanced budget, but Illinois families know the truth. This budget relies on nearly $1 billion in new taxes and fees while continuing to spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on programs for illegal immigrants and failing government agencies. Illinoisans are paying more and getting less, and that is nothing to celebrate.”

“Gov Pritzker reached a new milestone by enacting his 60th tax or fee hike with the signing of this budget. Since he has taken office, his budgeting has extracted over $77 Billion in new taxes from the citizens of Illinois all the while blaming the Trump administration for the States’ financial woes.”

“Governor Pritzker and his Democrat super majority continue to be the greatest economic development tool a neighboring or southern state could have.”

Rep. Halbrook remains committed to opposing the Pritzker Administration’s continued efforts to grow the state budget and Illinois bureaucracy.
